Video!

I haven't been great at taking videos for the last couple years. Especially since I've gotten more into photography, which doesn't make sense because the camera I use has incredible video capabilities. And to be completely honest, I have hated how my face and body look ever since I gave birth, but now that I've been working out I'm happier with myself.
So I think that my February goal will be to take more videos and be in more videos! Neely needs to have a record of us being cool, stylish and young! :)

How are you at taking videos? Do you take more pictures or videos? Why?

Papa, Get the Moon

I can't embed the video for some reason but here is the link! It's Neely reading "Papa, Please Get the Moon for Me"

Amazing!

Brett shared this with me yesterday and it brought tears to my eyes because they are so good.
Please try and watch the whole thing...it's worth it!
If this video doesn't bring a smile to your face then I don't know what will!

Monday

I haven't posted in a while because I can't think of anything to post.
I don't want to pour my guts out to (almost) silence like this post. Not that I post for comments (obviously, or I would have quit long ago) but when someone is honest and writing of things that were damaging to them it's nice to have support. Isn't that what the blogging community is all about? Support?

Lately I've been trying to disconnect from the internet more.
I have noticed that I'm constantly checking Facebook on my phone so I deleted it from my phone. It used to be that I would get so many notifications throughout the day so I'd be glued to my phone and away from Neely, if only momentarily. I hated that. So I deleted it and I only check it on my computer.
I want to be in the moment more and not take anything for granted. Life is so short and you don't know how many precious moments you'll be given with your child. (this moment brought to you by this movie.)
I was at the park the other day with Neely and I saw a mom with her iPad and iPhone. Her daughter ran up to her, said something excitedly, and the mom did not look up from her technology for a good 10 seconds after she spoke. I thought it was pretty ridiculous.
I long and ache for the days when it was normal for moms to stay at home, normal for girls to want to grow up and be moms, no technology and tons of family time. I wish I lived in the 40's. I guess I just wasn't made for these times. I have felt this way for as long as I can remember. I want to elaborate but it'll be at a later date.
I think I've blogged about this song before, but...it physically hurts me because I love it so much. I listen to it and dream about living when Helen Forrest was on the radio. I recently joined Spotify so that I could make a giant 40's music playlist. It's amazing.

Lea Salonga -Too Much For One Heart (Special edition)

I heard read the lyrics of this song from Miss Saigon on a blog and immediately looked it up on Youtube. As a mom, this song left me breathless in its beauty.

And i have given birth to a speckle of dust,
to a sparkle of light
to a small hint of life.

Frail as a flower in the morning
is this tiny work of art
when i see her face before me
this is too much for one heart.
I want time to stop right here
make perfection last forever
in which i could disappear, disappear.

here, you will see the best of you and me
for life stories combining

in this life we’ve begun I have been living with such wonder
that my soul could burst apart...
it's too much for one heart.

She & Him- I Put a Spell On You

Zooey Deschanel can do no wrong.
She is by far my favorite actress and hollywoodish person.

Heartbreak Art: Music Makers

As you know, I love Pinterest. I don't know about other people but I get crazy inspired looking through there and I actually make things due to my inspiration.
A month or so ago I saw this quote:

via

As soon as I saw it I knew that I had to paint it somewhere in our entryway. This quote is us. So I eventually found this technique:

via
It seemed perfect! I went to Home Depot and had them cut wood the perfect size for our entryway. I was so excited! I googled the quote before printing and found that the one I saw on Pinterest was incorrect! I found the correct quote and the person who originally said it, (it was said by Willy Wonka but it wasn't his original line) and I was good to go.
Cutting each letter out was a lot on the tedious side but it was going to be worth it. My idea was to keep the letters wood color and paint over them with a blueish on the right and some other color on the left with a vertical wood stripe, hence the painter's tape.

I began to paint. Brett even took Neely on an errand so I could get started. I decided this was a perfect color combo and I couldn't wait to peel the tape off.

Unfortunately while painting I saw that the paint had bled through the contact paper. I didn't realize contact paper wouldn't adhere well to wood. I was pretty bummed. I didn't bother to wait for all of the paint to dry, I peeled the letters off and to my dismay saw that my original idea had been ruined.

Instead of scrapping the whole thing I got out my black gesso and traced over each letter. Not my original idea, not even close to being as cool as that, but it works. And today we will hang it in our entryway!

And just to show you how awesome this quote is beyond the fact that it's made for my family, check it out in Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory. It is so randomly thrown in there it makes me laugh every time!

Fitz and the Tantrums

My friend has liked them for a long time and has mentioned how great they are but I never got around to really listening to them. I meant to but I forgot!
But as of today I'm a big fan! If you like what you hear, download their album on iTunes!

Have you heard any new music you LOVE lately? If so, give me a link to their video on Youtube!
